Discrimination in the News
I thought you should be aware of several recent news stories regarding the principle of equal treatment.
For the past 5 years, Richard Sander has been battling the CA state bar to obtain data on the effects of affirmative action programs. The CA Supreme Court recently ruled unanimously that researchers should have access to these records.
The DOJ issued new guidance to K-12 schools, essentially calling on administrators to use race in student disciplinary action to ensure punishments are distributed proportionately to each racial and ethnic group.
The Washington State Department of Transportation may be deciding that white women are no longer victims deserving of affirmative action preferences in awarding contracts. Preferred today, discriminated against tomorrow.
Just this month several particularly vile cases of hatred directed at multi-racial families received national attention. One father took to the internet to defend his right to post a picture of himself with his two daughters, even though their skin color is not the same color as his. Shortly after, Tamera Mowry gave a moving response to hateful critics of her interracial marriage.
It’s hard to imagine how we can ever fully move beyond ugly racial incidents like these when government still treats people differently based on race.
It’s time for a change.
